There’s an iPhone App To Find E85 Fuel
February 17, 2011
(February 17, 2011) Washington - Looking for E85 fuel? There’s an app for that.
The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) is excited to announce the release of the Flex-Fuel Station Locator application for iPhones, iPads and the iPod Touch. This application is free and available on the App Store. The Flex-Fuel Station Locator iPhone application will help users pinpoint any E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline) station in the United States.
“Providing America’s consumers with E85 locations at the tip of their fingers eliminates a barrier to increased E85 use and where to find the fuel,” said Robert White, RFA Director of Market Development. “Increasing awareness and educating drivers about ethanol is an important step in moving toward a more energy independent country.”
This program provides the user with station locations, fuel prices, directions and a phone number to each station. The main screen features three buttons: Nearest, Favorites and About. The Nearest button hosts a local map of all of the E85 stations in the area, marking each location with a pin. If the customer has a station they frequently fuel their flex-fuel vehicle (FFV) at, it is easy to make them a Favorite by highlighting the star associated with that specific fuel pump. To find E85 in other cities or states, there is a search feature that will quickly locate stations in a specified location
This application was developed utilizing the E85 station database hosted by the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center and the U.S. Department of Energy. This data is continuously updated to help users locate over 2,600 E85 fueling stations across the United States. To download the Flex-Fuel Station Locator, visit the Apple App Store and search “Flex-Fuel Station Locator” for a free and easy download directly to your iPhone, iPad or iTouch.
In addition to the Flex-Fuel Station Locator for iPhone, the RFA has developed a similar application for the Android series phones. This application is available at no cost on the Android Marketplace. Simply search “Flex-Fuel Station Locator” and download directly on your Android phone. For GPS users, the RFA also has an E85 Points of Interest (POIs) application for Garmin and TomTom GPS users. Consumers can download individual state data, a combination of states, or national data directly from their computer to their GPS device. Step-by-step downloading instructions are available here . These applications are updated quarterly to accurately guide users to the more then 2,600 E85 stations located in the United States. More information is available at www.ChooseEthanol.com.
As a reminder, E85 is an ethanol blended gasoline made up of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. This fuel is to be used in flex-fuel vehicles only, as they have been designed to operate on any level of ethanol blended gasoline. Owners should consult their owner’s manual to see if their vehicle is E85 compatible, or click here.
