Alternative Fuels Trade Alliance Congratulates Clean Cities Award Recipient

(October 15, 2010) Omaha - The Alternative Fuels Trade Alliance would like to congratulate Kevin Herdler of St. Louis Clean Cities for being named the Clean Cities 2010 Coordinator of the Year by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Herdler’s recognition stems from his success in the St. Louis region, actively playing a role in reducing the use of petroleum and replacing it with alternative fuels. Herlder has led the St. Louis Clean Cities group since 2001.

Herdler, a military veteran of the U.S. Air Force, has seen the impact of America’s addition to foreign oil. His continued efforts in promoting the use of American made fuel and supporting American jobs have helped increase awareness and educate consumers on the importance of alternative fuels like ethanol and biodiesel. It is with this heightened interest in domestic made fuel that our country can become more energy dependent.

“Working with Clean Cities Coordinators like Kevin has been greatly effective in providing American consumers with information on alternative fuels,” said Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) Director of Market Development Robert White. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and educating our country on the use of these alternative fuels that are produced right here at home.”

The Alternative Fuels Trade Alliance works closely with Clean Cities Coalition Coordinators like Herdler as the group received a $1.6 million grant from the DOE Clean Cities Program in 2009 to increase public awareness and understanding of alternative and greener vehicle technologies. The alliance and coalition have made great strides in educating Americans on alternative fuels like ethanol, biodiesel, propane and natural gas, co-hosting Alternative Fuels Workshops around the country. The Alternative Fuel Trade Alliance is made of a collaboration of alternative fuel organizations, including the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), National Biodiesel Foundation, Clean Vehicle Education Foundation, ASG Renaissance, and Propane Education Research Council.
