AEC Issues Fact Check on Oil Industry Claims in RFS Hearing
July 23, 2013
(July 23, 2013) WASHINGTON — With several representatives from oil industry trade associations testifying today before the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, the AEC released a fact check covering most of the issues raised about the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
“What we are seeing from the oil industry in the hearing today is more of the same about gas prices, RIN prices and the blend wall,” said AEC Executive Director Brooke Coleman. “The best way to catch the attention of policymakers is to say: we can't do it, and the policy is costing consumers money. The problem is these statements are factually incorrect. Any basic review of the marketplace today shows that the RFS is reducing gas prices, creating jobs, and expanding market opportunity for renewable fuels, exactly as designed.”
