RFA President Bob Dinneen Defends Ethanol on CNBC
Bob Dinneen, President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), appeared in a joint interview today with Bob Darbelnet, President and CEO of the American Automobile Association (AAA), on CNBC's “Closing Bell”. Mr. Dinneen rebuked recent comments made by the auto club, which insisted that E15 damages vehicles.
“There is no evidence to suggest that there are any problems associated with E15. E15 has been the most tested fuel in the history of the Environmental Protection Agency,” said Dinneen. “There is no mandate out there to use E15. It’s a consumer choice issue…. It’s going to grow because ethanol is cheaper than gasoline. E15 would be a cheaper fuel for some consumers that want to use it to try to save themselves some money at the pump.”
Darbelnet referred to letters sent to him from some automakers that raised concerns that the fuel could be hazardous to drivers, which prompted the safety question. Bottom line?
“It’s absolutely safe,” says Dinneen. “EPA went through years of study on this. The letters that he’s referring to just say that there might be problems because [the automakers] haven’t tested the fuel.”
