No Examples in Washington Post Criticism

Posted on: December 09, 2010 in Ethanol

While criticizing ethanol, the Post states that there are better alternatives to reduce oil use yet offer no examples.  Nor does the Post deem it necessary to highlight the estimated $100-$200 taxpayers fork over to the oil industry each year, and that is before any consideration of military expenditures is included.

The fact is there are no technologies that can match ethanol’s ability to reduce America’s reliance on foreign oil today and into the future.  What’s more, the technologies used to make ethanol are rapidly evolving to increase both the volume of renewable, biodegradable fuel we are capable of producing and the economic benefits that will result from our domestic ethanol industries.

The Post would be wise to offer a little balance to its readers.  Eliminating investments in ethanol and renewable fuels will simply further entrench the monopoly the oil industry has over the nation’s fuel markets.
