In a Letter to the Editor of the Chicago Tribune in response to "Food and the Drought", I point out that yes, this years drought is undoubtedly painful, but we will not know the impact on corn supply until harvest. In the meantime, we must avoid speculation and allow the marketplace work.

Big Oil’s Stolen 35 Minutes

A recent article entitled "Clean Green Scam" highlighted the case of Rodney Hailey whose company sold approximately $9 million worth of fraudulent biodiesel credits to the oil industry. They were also fined by the EPA for not conducting proper due diligence to make sure the credits were legit. This cost Big Oil another $40 million. The article went on to say, "Refiners have been ripped off to the tune of $200 million so far by crooks and government fines..." due to the Renewable Fuels Standard. Wow, that is a big number - unless of course you put it into context.

Use of E15 in your Automobile

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved the use of E15 (15% ethanol, 85% gasoline) for use in model year 2001 and newer vehicles. Now that E15 is being sold for use beyond flex-fuel vehicles, consumers have questions about using E15 their own vehicles. The RFA has compiled and Automobile Fact Sheet for E15 use.

May Ethanol Exports Drop to 9-Month Low; Distillers Grains Exports Surge to 19-Month High

July 11, 2012

U.S. exports of ethanol (denatured and undenatured, non-beverage) totaled 58.6 million gallons in May, down 21% from April and the lowest level since August 2011. May U.S. distillers grains exports totaled 761,470 metric tons (mt), reaching the highest level since November 2010.
