You’re a Good man, Bob; but you’re underfunded.
You need your own bought and paid for “Scientific Studies” to refer to. You need your own “Dutko Worldwide,” or Glover Park. For This you need Money. You need a “check-off.”
You have an election in which your most ardent supporters are reluctant to say the word, “Ethanol.” You were outplayed, badly, on food v. fuel; and, now, you’re getting whipped on “environmental” issues (a subject you should “Own.”)
And, it’s Unnecessary. You’re now representing a $20 Billion/Yr. Industry. A 1/10th of a penny/gallon would give you $10 Million/Yr to “Fight” with.
You should be setting up a program to help refiners help retailers get blenders pumps going. The “Numbers” on these things are astounding. You need a nationwide Information Campaign to educate the masses as to what happens when ethanol blends are burned in small, “high-compression” (read: efficient) engines.
Being bi-partisan (afraid of Both Sides) doesn’t work. Praise Bush, Grassley, and Pawlenty for the work they’ve done, and Endorse Obama. McCain hates you, anyway. Take the credit for “delivering” Iowa, and Minnesota to the Dems. The politicians will support you if they fear you. They’ll ignore you, otherwise.
You need Money, Bubba. And more of those deeply-entrenched insiders that know where the levers are, and how to get the money to them.
You need a “check-off.”
